Zanadeeq Arabians
Zanadeeq Arabians is a little girl's dream that has been brought to life through a great deal of determination and persistence. I came from a completely non-horsey background (or so I thought) and drove my parents absolutely crazy with constant nagging for a horse of my own. This dream has taken me on a wonderful journey. I have met so many wonderful people and their Arabian horses along the way.
Quite by accident in 1992 I was looking to loan a horse so I could ride with my friends - I was kindly offered Arishma (Arim x Jarwonga Maarushla), a lovely purebred mare - she was available for purchase due to the dispersal of Sanadaat Arabians. I put so much pressure on my poor parents and nagged them constantly for at least a week - though it was worth every moment because Arishma became mine.
The Zanadeeq prefix was registered in 1999 shortly after the arrival of my first foal, Shamarrah. It was at this point I began to get 'pretty serious' about starting my own breeding farm. I spent many hours trying to gain information, learning as much about the Arabian breed as I could. I researched pedigrees, visited a number of studs and attended shows admiring the horses. Being a fairly quiet, reserved person I found it kind of hard setting out on this mission - it didn't take me long though to work out how easy it would be talking to others about their horses.
It was a visit to Dowling Park to meet Tarong Shahgig that changed my entire outlook and the direction I wanted to head in with my breeding programme. Meeting Shahgig to me was like a child meeting their Hollywood idol - I adored that horse and the Dowling Park collection! They were what I imagined the true desert horses to be like. They had the best natural showy attitudes.
In 2005, Dowling Park Arabians dispersed their stud. I was given the opportunity of a lifetime! From Dowling Park, Aesah (Tarong El Nefous x Dynasty Dahlya), Dowling Delilah (Tarong Shahgig x Wildon Shahlehra) and Dowling Magidah (Akid Geshan x Aesah) joined ZQ. Aesah gave me two straight Egyptian stallions by MB Mayal before she died in February 2010. Both Mu'tazz and Al Hadiye are extremely valued at ZQ and have been retained for my breeding programme. Mu'tazz's breeding duties have already commenced with excellent results thus far.
In 2006, the decision was made to purchase a purebred stallion to use over my mares. At that stage Mu'tazz was only a yearling and needed to mature before I could use him. The intention was to purchase a mature straight Egyptian I could use to breed over the mares. I came across Bacchante Shere Khan. He was not Egyptian, not mature, an unproven maiden stallion - he was purchased from professional photos and a pedigree - a great pedigree. The purchase of Shere Khan has to be one of the best decisions I have made. He has proven to be very consistent with his foals - producing very pretty show-quality babies. His oldest foal, Swiftwood Ibn Shere Khan, is a multi A-class Champion.
The horses currently residing at Zanadeeq include our very special stallions Mu'tazz (MB Mayal x Aesah), his younger full brother Al Hadiye and Bacchante Shere Khan (Espakhan x Briarwood Nataalja).
The ZQ mare group consists of Dowling Delilah (Tarong Shahgig), Dowling Magidah (Akid Geshan), Illaroo Soverena (Gleneagle Sovereign), Pinnacle Park Grace (TNadji) and my old girl Arishma. Also currently on lease Jeanlee Jazzmin (Mon Ami Ibn Talima) to breed to Shere Khan for a 2011 foal. ZQ's most recent filly foal, by Mu'tazz from Pinnacle Park Grace will be retained to breed back to Shere Khan. Over the next few years I will be looking to add some more females.
Al Nazeef (Bacchante Shere Khan x Illaroo Soverena) is one of the best Arabians I have bred. He is beautifully conformed, extremely pretty and possesses that alluring personality that I loved in the Dowling Park horses. Unfortunately, a cut to his hind cannon has prevented his showring debut. Perhaps only for now though - thanks to super work from the team at Ballarat Veterinary Clinic he may recover with minimal scarring.
Just recently, I have also ventured into breeding a small number of high percentage Arabian derivatives in partnership with Sylvia Brown. Sylvia and I own Ballynamona Pearl and Melati Park Amira and are looking forward to their first foals.
Zanadeeq's focus is to breed show quality straight Egyptian and high percentage Egyptian foals combining El Shaklan and Naadirah breeding. With some exciting plans for the next year or two, the future of ZQ is very exciting.

Musical Gully Arabians
Musical Gully is a small but successful stud that has been producing quality Arabians for the showring and endurance for over 28 years.
Lois Sharam, and her partner Peter Fagan, began an extensive search that eventually led them to a beautiful bay colt named Kharine Rasim at Kharine Arabians, Woodend VIC.
Lois loved his beautiful eyes, amazing movement and his very honest attitude. He was a grandson of the mighty Sindh (imp.), one of the most important and influential Arabians in the early days of the establishment of the breed in Australia.
Kharine Rasim was shown extensively as a halter and ridden horse, competed in dressage and also in endurance events. He was both successful and versatile. Rasim died in 2007 at the age of 26.
The first two purebred mares were added to the stud in 1982. They included Ennerdale Shanna, the last mare bred by Charles Luckock (before he passed away) from Ennerdale Stud, Darlington VIC. Charles' grand-daughter Kate Luckock is the current president of the AHSA. Shanna produced some very successful endurance and show horses, including Musical Gully Tempo, MG Rhythm and MG Minuette.
Lois says the stud's aim is to breed - "Top riding horses with great conformation, a wonderful brain and good temperament. The breeding programme is based on approximately 95% Crabbet bloodlines", which of course originate from Lady Wentworth's stud in England. The horses are known for their solid type and substance, great movement and low heartrates, making them very popular with endurance riders.
Musical Gully Allegro is the current stallion in residence at the stud. He is now aged 19 and has been a Royal Melbourne Show Champion, SA State Titles Top 5 and Reserve Champion, has won under saddle and in dressage and has also been a successful endurance horse. Allegro still stands to visiting mares.
Musical Gully breeds no more than four foals a year. There is always a range of horses for sale, from foals and young unbroken horses to proven endurance stock.
Musical Gully stud has exported horses who are succesfully competing and winning endurance rides in Dubai, UAE and Indonesia. Overseas buyers have returned to purchase additional Musical Gully horses because of their calm dispositions and sound legs - very important features for endurance horses.
Musical Gully welcomes visitors by appointment. Please phone Lois to arrange a suitable time.
